What is Data Fabric?
Put simply: it is the overarching framework for Data Governance, Management and Optimal Delivery of Trusted Data for the purpose of Analytics.
A DATA FABRIC consists of multiple systems, and data flows, with a DATA MESH of human roles, and processes that must all be coordinated to achieve the goal of an architecture that encompasses all forms of analytical data for any type of analysis with seamless accessibility and shareability by all those with a need for it.
The idea of a “Data Fabric” started in the early 2010’s. Forrester first used the term in their published research in 2013. Since then, many papers, vendors, and analyst firms have adopted the term.
The goal of Data Fabric is to create an architecture that encompasses all forms of analytical data for any type of analysis with seamless accessibility and shareability by all those with a need for it.
The ultimate objective is to create an ecosystem for data delivery that unites tools and people and produces an efficient delivery system for data from source to consumer.
This ecosystem incorporates Metadata, Semantics, knowledge graphs and Automated Data Integration delivery.

There are many benefits to this
approach, including:
Easier data management, security, reliability and consistency with well documented metadata making the overall environment simpler to maintain.
Reduction of complexity and increased speed of delivery thanks to automated and streamlined processes that create and maintain the environment.
Democratization of data and analytical assets ensuring easy discovery and navigation of all the data assets by all users from a centralized point of data access.
A coordinated, documented process of data lineage and usage to deliver an increasingly better managed, trusted and secure environment.
